Saturday marked our 5th wedding anniversary so Mike and I headed down to Portland for a night out on the town without Tatum. It was great to get out and do something out of the ordinary since most nights are spent eating at home and relaxing on the couch with the dogs after Tatum has gone to bed. Additionally, this was the first time that we have gone out without other couples since Mike returned from deployment so it was nice to spend time alone. We started out the evening at a wine bar in Old Port before heading to Bresca for some great Italian. Our dinner was delicious and we stepped outside of the box and ate some new things: dates stuffed with gorgonzola cheese and chorizo and kale with pancetta soaked in a butter sauce atop fried multi-grain bread with a six-minute boiled egg on the side. To top it off, we stopped at Whole Foods on the way home and grabbed some Chocolate Port which we enjoyed while indulging in a chocolate peanut butter tart and a mini chocolate truffle cake.
Overall, we had a great weekend: we grilled out on Friday night after walking downtown with Tatum for some ice cream and today we celebrated Father's Day.

Mike's 1st Father's Day!
Today we celebrated Mike's 1st official Father's Day just the way he liked...we slept in, went out to breakfast, picked up sandwiches for lunch, and then ventured to Smiling Hill Farms, in Westbrook, Maine, for ice cream sundaes and fun for Tatum at the petting zoo. Unfortunately, after a fantastic week of 80+ degree weather today was overcast and rainy with a high of only 60 but it did not keep us from having a great time.
Tatum definitely enjoyed petting the miniature horses, lamb, and billy goat however her favorite part was helping us to eat our gigantic ice cream sundaes. Although it may only be coincidence, Tatum always mutters "mmm, mmm" when eating sweets - she must be developing a sweet tooth like her dad!

Popham Beach with Friends
Finally...a hot weekend in Maine! Leslie and Jeff came to visit from St. Louis this past weekend and brought the warm weather with them. The weekend was primarily spent relaxing and helping Tatum develop a sweet tooth. Tatum had Cote's Ice Cream on Saturday followed by an ice cream sundae at Marnee's Cookie Bistro on Sunday in Bath, Maine. After all of the splurging, we decided to head to Popham Beach for a little fun in the sun. Don't be fooled by the warm weather clothes. The water was only a chilly 51 degrees. Because the warm water from the Gulf Stream completely misses the Gulf of Maine, the water temperature doesn't get too warm.

Mike's Birthday In Bar Harbor, Maine
We decided to celebrate Mike's 29th birthday by driving 3 hours north along Route 1 and visiting the town of Bar Harbor with our friends Mike and Dana. This town is right outside of Acadia National Park on Mount Desert Island. Acadia National Park is a small park, but it has a lot to see. Unfortunately, it rained all day on Saturday, so we were restricted to a driving tour on our first day . The second day was much nicer and we were able to take Tatum to the beach for the first time! She loved the sand, but the water is freezing up here. We definitely plan on returning here in the future as there is a lot to see and we just got a glimpse of its beauty.
